    Dear Parents/Carers,

After a very busy few weeks at the school, there are just a few things to make you aware of before the holidays.

     School Photographs

The school photographer has been in touch this morning to apologise that photos have not yet arrived as he had intended.  Due to delivery delays, he only received them back from the lab late last night and was unable to get orders posted out in time.  They will be with us at the start of term.

     Staffing

One of our long standing canteen staff, Lesley, finishes today after several years at PPS.  We wish her well and thank her for her time with us.

The catering department are recruiting to the role, which would be on a relief basis, pending the advertisement of the post.  The post for Cook 1 is 18 hours per week and anyone interested is asked ot contact Kevin Fraser on 01349781121.

We also continue to await the advertisement of our clerical post.

     Parent Survey

Many thanks to those of you who have completed the Parent Survey issued last week.  The survey will be open until tomorrow when responses will be collated.  A summary of results will be shared and will inform our school improvement plan moving forward. Your views are essential in this and we appreciate your time in completing this.  A link to the survey can be found at the bottom of the email.

All of us at Portree Primary would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.  We look forward to seeing you all on the 9th of January.

    Regards,

    Sara

    Staffing

Today is the last day we have Annette and Beth in the school canteen.  We are very sorry to see them go and cannot thank them enough for all the delicious meals they have prepared for pupils and staff during their time with us.  From Monday a new team of staff will join us.  We wish to extend a warm welcome to Zoe Cross, Rebecca Ritson and Anne MacArthur, we look forward to having them as part of our school.

Jess MacLennan will be taking a careers break and Morag Murray will teach the P2 class full time from the start of the new term.  We are very sorry to see Jess go but we wish her well for her break and look forward to welcoming her back to our school in the future.

  • Weekly Update : 23 September

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Soccer 7s

The final Soccer 7s Tournament of the year is scheduled to take place next Saturday, 1st October.  Strips will be issued to pupils next week.  Parent volunteers are required to coach the teams on the day, parents who are able to help with this should get in touch with the school, any help parents can provide with this is really appreciated.

    Meet The Teacher

Parents are warmly invited to visit classrooms after school next Wednesday, 28th September, to meet class teachers.

    Uniform Swap

This year we plan to establish a uniform swap at the school.  The first swap will take place next Friday 30th September at 12.15pm in Room 1 and it is hoped this will continue on the last Friday of each month.  For parents who are not familiar with this, the idea is that used uniform, in good condition, can be swapped for uniform in a larger size, reducing the cost to parents and reducing waste.  We would encourage all parents to consider this option before purchasing new uniforms. Parents who do not have items to swap, can purchase uniform for a donation to the school fund of 50p per item.

    Wear It Pink

Our fundraiser for this term is Wear It Pink Day in aid of Breast Cancer Now.  We will be holding a ‘Wear it Pink Day’ at the school on Friday 7th October.  Pupils can choose to wear something pink to school that day and we will be collecting donations for Breast Cancer Now.

    Bus Route

Thank you to all the parents who provided feedback in connection with the extended bus route to the bus stop at the Dental Surgery.  This new route will begin after the October break.  Further details will be shared with parents at the end of this term.

The free bus travel bus pass for 5-22 year olds can be obtained by completing an application form which is available by following this link :

  • Weekly Update : 9th September

We have enjoyed another busy week at Portree Primary School this week and there are a few updates to share with you.

    New Bus Route

We are continuing to look at ways to reduce the congestion around the school at the beginning and end of the school day. We recently contacted Stagecoach to discuss the possibility of extending the bus route to include an extra stop and they have very kindly agreed. The new extended route will include the bus stop at the top of Woodpark Road, near the Dental Surgery.  Stagecoach have asked us to give them an indication of how many pupils are likely to use the bus to ensure they provide a bus with enough seats for everyone.  Please see below a link to further information and a short questionnaire for parents to complete.  Your input is very much appreciated and we would encourage parents to consider this option for travel to and from the school.

    WOW Certificates

Please continue to notify us of all of the many achievements being made outside of school no matter how small.  If they are important to pupils, they are important to us.  Each of these is recorded on a WOW certificate and 5 house points given out.  As many out of school activities resume, we love to hear what everyone is up to!

    Dathes Diner

The P7 enterprise was a great success on Wednesday.  The P7 class provided toast for many of our pupils at breaktime and they plan to do this each week this term.

    Childsmile

Childsmile forms have been issued to pupils this week, can all forms please be returned to class teachers or the school office by Friday 16th September.

    PE kit and Football Strips

Just a reminder that with the exception of National Strips, Football colours are not to be worn in school.  We appreciate that pupils are keen to wear these but thank you for your understanding that these are not permitted during the school day for PE etc.  We are still asking that pupils come to school in their kit on PE days but also remind parents that school jumpers must still be worn.

    Water Bottles

It remains essential that all pupils have a water bottle with them each day.  Please note that only water is to be consumed in classrooms throughout the day.  While juice is permitted at lunch and snack time, bottles in class should contain water only.

    In Service Days

The school will be closed to pupils on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th September for staff in service days.

    Have a lovely weekend,

    Iain
