Weekly Update : 20th August

Standard

Dear Parents/Carers,

And just like that, week one is done!  It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome pupils back to school this week and to see their enthusiasm in starting a new school year.  There are just a few items in this week’s update;

Personal Belongings

For at least the next 6 weeks, we are to adhere to the mitigations that were in place in June which includes limiting items brought from home to school to only essential items. This includes toys and pencil cases. We appreciate that this is disappointing for pupils and are hopeful that restrictions will allow this in time.  We thank you for your cooperation with this in the meantime.

Soccer 7’s

Several of our P5-7 pupils will represent the school at the Soccer 7’s tournament in Kyleakin tomorrow and we wish them well.  We are grateful to Mischa Constant and Brendan Clancy for volunteering to coach the teams at this event.  The next tournament takes place in Portree on Saturday 4th September and we will be looking for a parent volunteer to take on a coaching role at this event. If anyone would be happy to help with this, please get in touch.

Friday Arrangements

Just a reminder that we will now finish at 12.45 on a Friday with the exception of pupils who take school transport.  Grab and Go lunches will be available from the canteen for pupils to take away with them, however, there will not be a lunch hour at school on a Friday.  Pupils who travel on school transport will be supervised to eat their lunches at school until the buses and taxis arrive to collect them.

School Improvement Plan

While attainment and recovery continue to be our upmost priority, we are required to submit our annual improvement plan to the Council.  This plan is currently being drafted, however, our three areas of priority above recovery will be our Eco agenda (including our quest for a Green Flag), Community Engagement and Digital Technology.  We look forward to sharing further plans on these priorities with you over the coming term.

For those of you who are new to Portree Primary School, we welcome you and hope to soon be in a position to offer opportunities for you to visit the school and to become involved in the school community.  In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions or queries you may have, either with class teachers or directly with myself.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Regards,

Sara
