Weekly Update : 14 May

Standard

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of another week, there are just a few items to make you aware of;

Notice of Absence

Pupil absences are now required to be followed up on a daily basis.  Where we have not heard of a reason for absence, these will now be recorded as unauthorised absences.  Please continue to use email with class teachers or by phoning the office to notify us of each absence.  Where we have not heard, staff will be in touch to follow up.

PE Provision

The most recently updated position statement has indicated that indoor non-contact PE can now take place indoors.  While we will still endeavour to have pupils outside as much as possible, this is very welcome news to staff and pupils.

Staffing

Today we will wish Sonia, our school cook, well as she leaves PPS to start her new job.  We will miss her terribly but look forward to welcoming Corinna Campbell who will be with us until the summer term while the post is recruited.

Below you will see an update list of events for this term and there are a few that I would like to highlight and provide further information on;

Parent Council- The parent council meet on Tuesday at 6.30pm via Microsoft Teams.  The link for joining the meeting is below.  All parents are welcome to attend. Click here to join the meeting

Race For Life – We will be holding a school wide Race for Life event on Wednesday 9th June to raise money for cancer research.  Pupils can choose to walk or run the course which will be set around the KGV pitch in Portree and are encouraged to dress as “heroes” to help us mark the year that has passed.  Donations are very welcome and can be brought in on the day or donated online via https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/portree-primary-school

PPS 30th Anniversary – Monday 14th June will mark 30 years since Portree Primary School was officially opened.  While we hoped to mark this with a  large event, current restrictions have dictated otherwise.  We will be holding a birthday party in school that afternoon with cake, ice cream, bunting and some dancing.  All pupils will be encouraged to wear party clothes that day.

Soccer 7s – This Saturday the Skye and Lochalsh Junior Football Association are holding the first of this years Soccer 7’s at the King George Pitch in Portree.  This is for pupils in P5-7 and those involved have received notices home.  While we have not yet been able to start after school activities as usual, we will be relying on parental support for “coaching” at events such as these.  The next event takes place on Saturday 5th June in Broadford and I would be delighted to hear from any parents who would be willing to coach a team at this event.  Spectators are currently not permitted at these sporting events.

End of Term – While it is still awhile off, school will close on Friday 25th June at 12noon.  Stagecoach are not able to alter their bus timetables on this date so parents are asked to make arrangements to collect their children.  Grab and Go lunches will be available from the canteen for those who wish.
