Weekly Update 20th March

Highlights from this week:

~ Our Primary 7 pupils were invited to the Fingal Centre this week to take part in a Basketball Festival. They all represented our school wonderfully.

~ We had our Parents Open Morning last Friday. It was lovely to see so many of our families attending and seeing all the fantastic work that our pupils have done over the last term. It was also great to have such interesting feedback about our proposed new Vision, Values and Aims. We really value everyone’s input! Please keep an eye out for more information about these in the coming weeks.

~ Parent’s Evenings were this week, and we had a super turnout. If you didn’t manage to make an appointment, please contact the school office to rearrange.

~ Our Values Awards Winners had their Hot Chocolate reward yesterday due to all of the exciting things that we have planned by Primary 4 for us tomorrow during Red Nose Day 2026.

~ Primary 6 have been researching influential women throughout history, following on from International Women’s Day and some pupils presented these at assembly on Wednesday. This work is connected to Article 2 – Non-Discrimination. Well done to our presenters!

Reminders and Notices

Bake Sale

We are delighted to let you know that we will be holding a whole‑school Bake Sale next Friday to help raise funds for our upcoming school trip in support of Hamish. To make the event a success, we are kindly asking for donations of home baking. If you are able to contribute, please send your baking to the front office on Friday 27th March, clearly labelled with a full list of ingredients. Throughout the morning, pupils will have the opportunity to purchase cakes and treats. We will also be running a raffle, with tickets available to buy on the day. Parents and carers are warmly invited to join us in school from 12 noon onwards to purchase cakes and buy raffle tickets. We would love to see as many of you as possible. As always, we are incredibly grateful for your ongoing support. Your contributions make a real difference to our school community.

World Down Syndrome Day 2026

World Down Syndrome Day 2026 is on Saturday the 21st of March this year. To mark this day, we would like to invite all pupils to wear their most colourful socks to school on Monday the 23rd of March.

Toys

Can we ask our families to ensure that pupils are not bringing toys in to school, where possible. We are finding we spend a lot of time searching for lost toys, repairing broken toys and sorting out fallouts over toys. If pupils bring toys to school, we ask that they are kept in school bags during the day to avoid these instances.

Skye Dance Soup and Pudding Fundraiser

We would like to warmly invite all parents, carers and members of our school community to a Soup and Pudding Fundraiser this Saturday at Skye Bible Church from 1–4pm. Everyone is welcome!

Skye Dance provide our pupils with fully funded dance lessons every week, as well as fantastic after‑school dance sessions that so many of our children enjoy. This fundraiser helps support the wonderful work they do with our school.

Please do come along, enjoy some delicious food, and help us support a cause that truly benefits our young people.

Soccer 7’s

The next Soccer 7s event will take place on Saturday 28th March at Portree High School Astroturf, beginning at 11am.  This event is open to pupils in P4-7.  Permission slips were issued to interested pupils last week, with a return deadline of today (Friday 20t March).  Any last minute entries can be made at this link by 5pm today: Soccer 7s Permission 28th March Portree – Fill in form

Drop-off and Collection of Pupils

A reminder that we have a designated pupil pick-up/drop-off point at the Camanachd Square car park (near Community Centre and Portree Nursery), and a crossing patrol on Home Farm Road to help pupils cross safely.  It would be very helpful if families could use this area as much as possible to reduce traffic around the school.  Please also respect our neighbours around the school by not blocking driveways and be aware that Marsco Place and Glamaig Place are unadopted roads, meaning it is the residents of these streets that are responsible for them rather than Highland Council. We are hopeful that the yellow zig zag lines will be reinstated outside of our school entrance in the next few weeks. After the Easter Holidays, the gates to school will be closed while Mrs MacSween is carrying out her duties to ensure the safety of all of our pupils.

Thank you for your support with this.

Important – Pupils taking bus

Pupils who take the bus to school, but who are not eligible for free school transport must be in possession of their Young Scot/National Entitlement card.

If you are unsure about whether your child is entitled to free school transport, you can check eligibility at this link: https://www.highland.gov.uk/info/878/schools/12/school_transport or be in touch with the school and we’ll let you know.

If your child does not have a Young Scot/National Entitlement card you can apply for one at this link: https://young.scot/get-informed/young-persons-free-bus-travel/
