Weekly Update 6th March

Highlights from this week:

~ S5 gave an informative and helpful talk to P7 about transition and what to expect in high school.  We’d like to pass on our thanks to Mr Breen and say how well the girls did. They all spoke eloquently and really eased many of the P7s worries.

~ Our Primary 6 and 7 pupils enjoyed a lovely visit from some S1 pupils who taught some Gaelic phrases, sang songs and played games with P7 as part of Seachdain na Gaidhlig. We want to thank Miss MacDougall and the pupils for their time!

~ Our Primary 6 and 7 pupils enjoyed a session at the Newton Rooms this week, learning about Salmon and aquaculture. They were a credit to the school, showing great listening skills and demonstrating kindness and respect when visiting the community centre.

~ We had the opportunity to attend a motivational assembly on Wednesday, led by Andy McKechnie. The session focussed on the Commonwealth Games. He then worked with Primary 1/2 and Primary 5 to do focussed workshops about the Winter Olympics. They had a great time!

~ We had the loveliest day yesterday for World Book Day 2026. We had a great time dressing up or dressing in our jammies. Here are some of the winners of our ‘reading in unusual places’ competition. All of the entries were just fantastic and really made us smile!

~ Mrs Deplano has been busy working on the school grounds with some of our Primary 6 pupils, planting the bulbs and flowers that have been kindly donated to our school. Thank you again to everyone for their support.

Reminders and Notices

Our Parents Open Morning in on Friday the 13th of March from 11:30 – 12:30pm, and we are looking forward to welcoming you all in to see your child’s work on this day. There will be tea and coffee served from 11am in the Gym Hall so please come along for a blether before going along to classes. The lost property will be available to look through at this time as well.

The class are looking for donations towards a toys stall. These can be dropped off at reception or pupils can take them along to the P4 class from Monday 16th March.

Bake Sale

We are delighted to let you know that we will be holding a whole‑school Bake Sale to help raise funds for our upcoming school trip in support of Hamish. To make the event a success, we are kindly asking for donations of home baking. If you are able to contribute, please send your baking to the front office on Friday 27th March, clearly labelled with a full list of ingredients. Throughout the morning, pupils will have the opportunity to purchase cakes and treats. We will also be running a raffle, with tickets available to buy on the day. Parents and carers are warmly invited to join us in school from 12 noon onwards to purchase cakes and buy raffle tickets. We would love to see as many of you as possible. As always, we are incredibly grateful for your ongoing support. Your contributions make a real difference to our school community.

Parents Evenings

Parent’s Evenings will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday (17th and 18th) of March. The Parents Evening booking system will open on Monday the 9th of March. Please look out for an e-mail and get in touch if you have any questions.

World Down Syndrome Day 2026

World Down Syndrome Day 2026 is on Saturday the 21st of March this year. To mark this day, we would like to invite all pupils to wear their most colourful socks to school on Monday the 23rd of March.

Drop-off and Collection of Pupils

A reminder that we have a designated pupil pick-up/drop-off point at the Camanachd Square car park (near Community Centre and Portree Nursery), and a crossing patrol on Home Farm Road to help pupils cross safely.  It would be very helpful if families could use this area as much as possible to reduce traffic around the school.  Please also respect our neighbours around the school by not blocking driveways and be aware that Marsco Place and Glamaig Place are unadopted roads, meaning it is the residents of these streets that are responsible for them rather than Highland Council. We are hopeful that the yellow zig zag lines will be reinstated outside of our school entrance in the next few weeks.

Thank you for your support with this.

Important – Pupils taking bus

Pupils who take the bus to school, but who are not eligible for free school transport must be in possession of their Young Scot/National Entitlement card.

If you are unsure about whether your child is entitled to free school transport, you can check eligibility at this link: https://www.highland.gov.uk/info/878/schools/12/school_transport or be in touch with the school and we’ll let you know.

If your child does not have a Young Scot/National Entitlement card you can apply for one at this link: https://young.scot/get-informed/young-persons-free-bus-travel/
