Weekly Update 16th January

Highlights from this week:

Reminders

  • I received an e-mail from one of our families commending the kindness of three of our Primary 6 pupils last Friday when they helped a member of the community who had fallen on the ice. This is a fantastic example of the caring nature of our pupils, and I wanted to say how proud I was to receive this e-mail. Well done PPS!
  • Values awards winners this week enjoyed their hot chocolate reward with Mrs Tyronney. We are so proud of their achievements.
  • Our class of the week awards have been in full force. Primary 1/2 chose to have a teddy bear’s picnic last Friday and Primary 4 and Primary 7 had extra playtime. Our class of the week this week was P1/2 and P2/3, chosen by our Primary 7 prefects. A huge thankyou to our families for supporting our Cauliflower Cards enterprise before Christmas, run by Miss MacKenzie. The school raised £303.50p for school fund.

~ I want to remind our families that we have two surveys open to parents. Please support us by giving your views, as they are really valued. These forms will be available until the 19th of January.

~ Please look out for a letter about cookery club, which will start back next Friday. Miss Cooper and Mrs Nisbet are going to supervise this club alongside some of our Primary 7 pupils. If your child hasn’t managed to get a space this time, I will let you know and hopefully they will get a slot for the next block. I can’t wait to be asked to be a taste tester!

~ A letter also went home about computer club, which will begin again on a Tuesday afternoon, supported by Ethan and Mr MacLean. The session runs from 3:30pm until 4:30pm. Please return these letters as soon as possible.

~ Today I have sent out our updated communication and pupil attendance policies. Please read them over and get in touch if you have any questions about these.

~ Primary 6 will be attending the ice-skating session at the Community Centre on Thursday the 22nd of January at 11am. A permission letter has gone out for this so please keep an eye out.

~ The lost property room will be open for families to come and look at after school every day next week. There are a huge number of unclaimed jackets, t-shirts and school jumpers. If you require new school uniform, then please come and look and take what you need.

Drop-off and Collection of Pupils

A reminder that we have a designated pupil pick-up/drop-off point at the Camanachd Square car park (near Community Centre and Portree Nursery), and a crossing patrol on Home Farm Road to help pupils cross safely.  It would be very helpful if families could use this area as much as possible to reduce traffic around the school.  Please also respect our neighbours around the school by not blocking driveways and be aware that Marsco Place and Glamaig Place are unadopted roads, meaning it is the residents of these streets that are responsible for them rather than Highland Council. We are hopeful that the yellow zig zag lines will be reinstated outside of our school entrance in the next few weeks.

Thank you for your support with this.

Important – Pupils taking bus

A reminder for pupils who take the bus to school:

Pupils who take the bus to school but who are not eligible for free school transport must be in possession of their Young Scot/National Entitlement card.

If you are unsure about whether your child is entitled to free school transport, you can check eligibility at this link: https://www.highland.gov.uk/info/878/schools/12/school_transport or be in touch with the school and we’ll let you know.

If your child does not have a Young Scot/National Entitlement card you can apply for one at this link: https://young.scot/get-informed/young-persons-free-bus-travel/

Warm regards,

Jennifer Tyronney
