Weekly Update 27th June

Dear parents/carers,

It has been a relatively quiet week in the school after the excitement of transitions last week.  I know teachers have enjoyed having their own classes back as we wind down towards the end of term.

Please see our weekly update below.

Staffing and Teaching Arrangements from August 2025

I am now in a position to be able to confirm our staffing arrangements for next session.  Firstly, I am excited to say that Miss Hajar Moujib will be joining our teaching team as a probationer teacher.  Hajar knows the school well, having worked with our current P6 class as a student teacher between November and March.  We look forward to having Hajar on board.

Unfortunately, Miss Fiona Goss will not be working with us next session.  Fiona had been with us once per week as a Class Contact Reduction (CCR) teacher working with both the P5 and P6 classes on a Friday.  It has been great having Fiona with us this year, and we wish her all the very best in the future.

Also, it is with great sadness that we will be saying farewell to Mrs Alice MacVicar.  Alice has worked in Portree Primary School for many years as a CCR teacher, delivering art lessons to all classes one day per week.  We will be very sorry to see Alice go, as she has been redeployed to another school.  All the very best Alice.

Finally, all parents should have received an email this week from Mhairi MacDonald (Area Quality Improvement Manager) to confirm that Sara Matheson will not be returning to the school as Head Teacher.  Sara has been appointed permanently to the position of Education Support Officer, a position which she has held on secondment for some time now.  We wish Sara all the best, and look forward to seeing her at our prizegiving assembly next week to bid her farewell.

The permanent Head Teacher position will be advertised in due course, and I look forward to continuing in my role as Acting Head Teacher in the meantime.

Our teaching arrangements for next session will be:

P2/3Mrs Murray (2 ½ days) & Mrs Martin (2 ½ days)

P7 Sailing

Half of our P7 class attended a sailing taster session yesterday afternoon, and the other half are due to do the same this morning.  This activity always goes down well with pupils and I know this time has been no different. Thank you to the sailing club for putting these sessions on for us.

Computer Club

Please note that there will be no computer club next Tuesday.  I would like to thank Ethan (P6) for all of his hard work in running the club over the past few months, as well as the other P6 helpers; Caleb, Joni, Fred, Marcus, Bobby (and everyone else who helped).  Computer club has been very popular and I hope that we will be able to continue this next session.

Prizegiving and Leaver’s Assembly

Our end of session Prizegiving and Leaver’s Assembly will take place on Wednesday 2nd July at 9.30-10.30am.  All parents/carers of Primary 7 children are invited to attend.

Invites were sent out this week to parents of those pupils in P1-6 who have been selected as prize winners.

We are looking forward to celebrating the success of our learners and bidding farewell to our P7 class.  Mrs Sara Matheson will be joining us on the day as our guest of honour, and I know the children will be looking forward to seeing her.

Last day Arrangements

Please note that the last day of term is Thursday 3rd July, and that the school will close at 12 noon that day.
