Welcome to primary 5!
Our first few weeks in primary 5 have been extremely busy, we are continuing to settle in well and have been working very hard.
We have begun learning about our topic, which is Great Britain. We have learnt about the different flags associated with the British Isles, and looked at towns & cities in different regions. We are now focusing on Scotland, and last week we began thinking about Scottish mountains. We were extremely lucky that one of our PSA’S, Mr Constant, gave a small talk about mountains, and showed us a video filmed when he was a guide taking some tourists up one of the local hills. This then led on to the class making some safety leaflets about staying safe if you go up a mountain.
Last week we had a visitor in Primary 5, Angus came in to start teaching us how to play the whistle. We began learning our first tune and we are hopefully going to perform this in our assembly at the start of next term. Angus will be continuing to help us over the next few weeks. For now the whistles are staying in school, but we are very fortunate that when the lessons finish, the children will be able to take their whistle home to keep.
Each week a member of the class is star of the week and they will have a note sent home in their diary to let you know that they have been made the star of the week. They also get to choose a small prize from the prize jar. Well done to Hannah, Ryan, Callum and Bobby who have all been stars of the week so far this term.
A quick reminder – homework is sent home on a Monday and should be returned on a Thursday. There is reading homework set for each night which is in your child’s homework diary. In your child’s homework jotter there is a spelling grid and a maths grid, one activity should be completed each week. Please complete these activities inside the homework jotter, unless it is one of practical activities where you can sign the task. In addition to this, there is also a look, cover, write and check booklet for each weeks spelling.
