P2 – Miss MacKenzie

What a fantastic night we had at our Christmas Concert.  We enjoyed singing Frosty the Snowman and then Jingle Bells with all of P1-3!

dsc_0200dsc_0202Christmas festivities are in full swing in P2/3.  We had great fun making pancake mix and Rudolph sweetie baskets for the Christmas Fayre.  We all took turns selling our crafts to help us practice counting money!

Primary 6 have been teaching us how to use our own usernames and passwords to logon to the computers.  This week we all managed to do it on our own!!  Thank you to P6 for your kindness and patience.

We had a K’Next workshop at school today.  We had 3 missions to complete to build a Spacebot in our groups.  We drew pictures of our Spacebots and then got to drive them around the hall with a remote control.  We collected points for knocking over the skittles and lost points if we hit an alien.  It was “super fun”!

What a fun last day of term!  Primary 2 helped Primary 7 to raise money for PPS 999. We got to test out the Emergency Service vehicles and equipment and also visited the stall to spend our pennies.  We made our own stall with an Easter Bunny Raffle, Lolly Ring Toss and a Guess How Many Easter Eggs? competition.  It was amazing to see what we can accomplish when we all work together.  Well done to all involved!

Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club came to school on Wednesday and shared their great achievement.  They won the Scottish Cup for the first time ever!  We got to see the cup and learn all about its history.

We had great fun in Primary 2 celebrating World Book Day on 4th March.  We all dressed up as our favourite story book characters and spent the day reading some of our favourite stories.  Primary 6 had set up fun book day activities and we had a great time visiting their class to take part.  Lots of fun was had by all !

Lego Model Adventures

Primary 2 have had a very busy week creating Lego model adventures.  On Tuesday, we built models with special powers.  On Wednesday we made up stories about our models for our weekly writing.  Our stories were amazing!!!

Daily Physical Activity

Primary 2 love to move!  We enjoy daily physical activity in our classroom, in addition to our outside play.  We regularly link our learning to Better Movers, Better Thinkers.  This means that we get to move and learn at the same time, which is great fun!  Mr Finlayson likes to join us for brain breaks when we simply get to jump about to get our brains working again.

National Poetry Day – 8th October 2015

Primary 2 enjoyed visiting P3 to listen to their poems.  Some Primary 2 children were keen to read out their own poems. Children completed an acrostic poem about beans to tie in with their bean plants. IMG_1564IMG_1565 IMG_1566 IMG_1567 IMG_1568 IMG_1570 IMG_1571 IMG_1572

Many thanks to all the parents and children who enthusiastically collected milk cartons for our P2 class igloo.  Sadly, due to some global warming, our igloo melted!   The children are now enjoying our alternative ice cave and have decorated it with icicles.  We have even had a few penguin visitors.   Primary 2 have experienced some unplanned additional learning and some healthy discussions have taken place surrounding structure, stability and of course, global warming!  The children are also very familiar with the phrase “If at first you don’t succeed ………….”

The children have also looked at the weather in Antarctica and in Scotland and have achieved some success in growing bean plants.  Our giant beanstalk has been over-run by colourful insects and the children can confidently explain how and why some creatures live in a certain climate, and why others can’t.  We are looking forward to measuring rainfall over the next few weeks.  If you have any knowledge or experience of weather forecasting, we would love you to come and help us.
